Thai massage (also known as Thai Yoga Massage or Traditional Thai Massage) is a mixture of general pressure, pressure on energy points and yoga style stretches. The whole body is covered, generally starting with the feet and ending with the head and face. The massage is received on the floor, in light loose clothing, preferable of natural fibres, which allows free movement.

The founder of thai massage is believed to be Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, a close friend of the Buddha and personal physician to the Magadha King Bimbisara 2,500 years ago. It is generally believed Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha's teachings arrived in Thailand at the same time as Buddhism, in the 2nd or 3rd century BC.
Thai Massage has always been closely connected with Buddhism and traditionally was taught and practised in Buddhist temples. The giving of thai massage is seen as a spiritual practice and the physical application of Metta or loving kindness.
