Coaching is a way to help you get from where you are now to where you want to be faster than you could do alone.

Coaching is about enabling others to move forward more effectively than if they were doing this alone. Coaching is a processes of helping you identify your goals, work out options and then put in place an achievable action plan. Coaches have a huge array of tools that they use to help you and I have outlined a few of the mostly commonly use below:

  • The wheel of life helps you review how balanced your life is. This tool takes 8 key areas such as family, work, parents, children, friends, social life, health, finances, spirituality and has you rank each on a scale of 1-10. This is drawn up on wheel so that you can clearly see areas in your life where there is room for improvement. The wheel shows you areas in your life you may wish to improve and helps you decide where to focus.
  • To do lists help you organise all the outstanding tasks you have and prioritise the tasks which enables you to structure your time more effectively. This may seem like a simple idea but if you are overwhelmed by the quantity and or variety of tasks you can struggle to focus and become ineffective.
  • Goal setting, ensures that you is focused on working towards what really matters to you. Goals need to be realistic and achievable and a coach will help you identify your key goals. Typical tools that are used include the SMART model which is an excellent way to clarify goals. SMART goals are Smart, Measurable, Achievable, Resources and Time-framed.

Coaching looks forward, it empowers and motivates you to create the life you want. Coaching can help you:

  • manage your time more effectively
  • over come limiting believes
  • archive a better work/life balance
  • improve your health and wellbeing
  • plan your retirement
  • turn redundancy into opportunity
  • improve relationships

Coaching is not therapy, counselling or mentoring but a distinct discipline in its own right. A coach does not fix your problems as they know that you already have all the answers. A coach is there to empower you to be the master of your own destiny.
